I need a fast growing, hardy plant that I can plant in the fall and....?

Eleni Mccier: Be careful what you're asking for. Some spreading plants take over everything, even your lawn. You'll be battling to get rid of it.I have had good luck with creeping flox. It's very colorful in the spring and lovely and green all summer. You can trim this one too.It has leaves that look almost like a spruce tree but stays as ground cover.

Ezekiel Kadner: lily-of-the-valley will do just what you describe....and, for two weeks in the spring, your gardens will smell like heaven...ask someone who has some if you can dig some of the roots ( little tubers ) in the fall, to plant in your garden. you only need a handful in each bare spot you want to fill, they'll do the rest.I'm sure they won't mind. This plant DOES "take over "...and, if you dig the roots, they will just make a ton more next spring, and fill in whatever you take. They'll never even know you took any , when they come up next year....they are easy enough to control if you need to, you can mow them d! own, or pluck each one out, that's going where you don't want it to grow....Show more

Lonnie Jehle: Depends on how tall a plant you want....there are some really nice "ground cover" type plants..: Creeping jenny, myrtle (aka vinca), bishop weed, chameleon plant.....make sure you check on your hardiness zone to be sure certain things can be grow there...also, if you want something "spreading" be aware: Spreading plants can very quickly become a nuisance and you'll wonder shy you every planted them.
