Why Germany has no Aircraft Carriers and Nukes?

Tana Dumoulin: As in ''W.W.II/1939-1945'', they, ''GERMANY and their KREIGSMARINE'', will precisely more than ''SUCCEED WITH THEIR SUBMARINES''!!!

Sherrill Botting: @Rich the average guyBut Italy has 2 Aircraft Carriers and they also lost the war

Robin Weelborg: I'm not sure about what kind of restrictions are on Germany after WW2 but I'm pretty sure that there would be no way in hell they'd be allowed nukes. As for carriers. They are extremely expensive to build and maintain.

Stevie Kizziar: fff

Sammie Bocanegra: Germany is a landlocked state therefore does not have a Navy e.g. no aircraft carriers. Additionally, with the close of WWII, the treaty Germany signed does not allow to have a military nuclear program. However they do have nuclear energy programs.

Majorie Chester: Germany is still under occupation, they can only have what we tell them they can have

Jacques Teri: It never ceases to amaze me all the answers abut how the Germa! ns and Japanese 'can't' have stuff due to treaties, loosing the war, etc. Do people who claim this sort of nonsense not actually do any research before they run their pie-holes?Germany has been fully re-armed since they joined NATO in the mid-50s. At one point, the German Army had more main battle tanks in central Europe than all the other NATO countries had combined in CENTEUR. As far as nuclear weapons, the West German Luftwaffe had two Wings of Pershing missiles by 1965, which were deployed for the QRA mission. The only difference between the German and American missiles were that German Constitutional legal issues required that the US own and maintain the actual nuclear warheads. In wartime, the Luftwaffe would collect the warheads and use them as directed by their national command authority. Thus your answer as to why the Germans have no special weapons is an internal constitutional issue, not some imaginary post-war treaty. As far as Aircraft Carriers, the Germa! n Navy mission was, and still is, is to conduct missions prima! rily in the Baltic and North Sea - neither of which is really conducive to carrier operations. Land-based aircraft can easily cover all missions in both bodies of water. On the occasion when a German vessel operates out-of-area as part of a NATO or EU mission, then they are usually operating in conjunction with a country that has CVs already. Bottom line: no mission or funds for a carrier....Show more

Davina Shindler: They lost the war, and are not allowed to have those things. Germany tried to take over the world twice already, once shame on you, twice shame on me :)Both Mercedes benz and BMW used to make planes (their logos are plane propellers) but after WWII they were not allowed to make war weapons anymore, and so they began making cars.Japan does not have an army for the same reason....Show more

Marco Stolarz: Who said they didn't?

Barrett Alosa: Germany doesn't have a lot of coast, and, no overseas territories. So, they don't need carriers, whi! ch are massively expensive anyway. As for nukes; they don't have the land to develop, and test them.

Alise Rutgers: Not exactly sure, but it wouldn't suprise me if there was some sort of rules that were laid down following WW2... Either that or Germany simply doesn't see the need for nukes or carriers?

Ruthe Real: It's not that Germany isn't allowed to have either, it's that Germany currently prefers to keep a relatively modest defence force. They're currently already reducing and reorganizing their armed forces, disbanding one Army division and merging two others, downsizing troop numbers and merging numerous Air Force units. As to why they're doing this is fairly contentious, but with the end of the Cold War, NATO becoming stronger and Europe a lot more stable, this is understandable. It's also worth noting that Germany has always had a relatively small Navy, even during the world wars. While France and Britain have numerous ports and ample coastline, Germany ! has much less of either, and isn't very well placed to project force th! rough the sea simply because of their geography....Show more

Troy Monsivais: Germany lost World War II and had their military constitutionally limited.Their military was limited to a defensive role just like Japan.
