Ollie Hamiel: I moved and my commute went from 35 minutes to 50 mintes. It hurts a lot more than I thought it would. who thought 15 mor minutes would be a big deal. but on bad weather days, or when you just want to get home, it seems like forever.Plus, now that 1/2 hour a day longer is adding to my waist.Sorry to go on , but if I could find a closer job in less than a 30 minute commute. I would go. I would draw the line at 75 minutes. I was offered $163k to work in Manhattan.... couldn't do it ... and I didn't want to move closer.remember to calculate the commute into your salary to compare jobs. every 20 minutes each way should account for a 10% change in pay. this is to cover your time and car expenses.hth...Show more
Curtis Josef: I used to drive a long distance every day -- 35 miles each way to NYC, which was insane. Now I take the train. I'd suggest considering a few factors:1) Factor in the costs and decide how much are you willing to pay each week?*! *Potential costs: Gas, Tolls, Parking**Potential benefits: tax deductions for work related driving2) How many miles are you comfortable putting on your car? (if you lease, you may not want to rack up the miles)3) How much traffic are you likely to run into? **New York traffic is a headache every single day, and can get really backed up, making you late to work. **35 miles in rural Pennsylvania is probably rather easy.4) Related to the above, what time would you need to wake up in the morning? **If really early to avoid traffic, think about what time you normally wake up.**If later than taking public transportation, then that could be a benefit.5) Can you carpool w/ someone? (Might save on costs and keep you entertained)Good luck!...Show more
Ruby Martis: i commute 3.5 miles which is also in a city so it takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the day..
Raymon Fiene: I think it really depends where you live. Currently I'm in Raleigh, NC and commute about 10 ! miles or 30 minutes (city driving), which since this is a fair! ly small city is actually considered a longer commute. however, when living in Baltimore my commute was 25 miles and took 45 minutes and that was about average. Similarly when I lived in rural western md my commute was 30 miles and 40 minutes and that was normal there. It also depends on what you can stand, personally I don't think the salary amount would matter if I had to drive more than 45 minutes, the drive time wears you down after a while....Show more
Clay Lipira: 2 minutes. About one city block.
Season Confalone: I commute 45 minutes everyday. There is no traffic and I travel at least 75 miles per hour. It is about 50 miles. I would not travel any farther than that. It really wears on you after time. Plus you lose a lot of time out of your day.
