Caroyln Ebach: How old are you? Most mature, and responsible adults research what is good for them or not. A Criminal justice degree, is a throw away degree, employers do not care about it because it is too numerous. Second of all security forces, or any branches mp's will not look good on a resume for a law enforcement entity, mitary police training is not the same as civilian police. Sometimes police departments actually do not want former mp's becauese it enstills bad habits that are hard to break. If you want to be security forces(considered by many as the worst Job in the military), do it cause you want to not cause you think it will help you get on with a police department or something. ALL military services even if you were a plumber gives you preference points to federal law enforcement, police departments and fire departments. Security forces for their first 3 years spend 12 hrs a day on shifts guarding either a gate or the flight line. After that you may be give! n the chance of law enforcement duties, but that is only a possibility. You know it's a bad job when sf members tell everyone the highlight of the job is maybe one day becoming a k9 handler. They also have the highest suicide rate, and deploy often for much longer than the rest of the airforce even more than spec ops and combat jobs. Think very hard before you list security forces because most likely you will get it....Show more
Idell Syed: Another name for Security Forces is ID card checker or gate guard.
Sylvie Snetting: Do you like guarding gates for 12 hours?
Jonathon Labonne: Extremely interesting and challenging work, you'll be guarding a gate to the base 8-12 hours day verifying all cars coming into the base have a sticker on the front bumper or windshield. You won't believe how exciting that job is. Everyone exiting the gate is ignored as the USAF doesn't require any kind of pass to go off base.My job was really boring spending 8 hrs a day lookin! g for bad transistors in avionics on aircraft....Show more
!Alphonso Brake: If you want to essentially be a military police officer, Security Forces (enlisted) is for you. If you want to be something like a chief of police (i.e. flying a desk), then Security Forces (officer) is for you. If you're more into the legal/forensic/"secret squirrel" kind of stuff, I would recommend trying to go into the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). If you're more interested in law, and want to be more like a lawyer or judge, JAG would be a better fit. However, OSI and JAG are rather difficult to get into, due to the low numbers of slots, and the fierce competition to get said slots.I would look on sites such as www.af.mil to find out more, or even contact a local recruiter. If they can't get you an answer, they may be able to give you contacts in Security Forces, OSI, or JAG. Best of luck!...Show more
Jorge Detlefs: Rebel Rob, sorry I'm less than you because I dont wanna be a jar head. And fyi, in security forces you earn 17 colle! ge credit hours during tech school, and security forces on a resume would look great on any future jobs i apply to concerning the criminal justice field. get your head out of your ***. hu-ah?
Azalee Ahrendes: Don't let some of these people drag you down... This career field can very from place to place and yes some people might be working gates but honestly most of those jobs are being contracted out now a days anyway. Personally though if your trying to be a cop i would look into the air guard and find a base close to you that focus's on police as a large part of there mission and go AGR status "full time guard". Where some bases like Minot or FE Warren you are almost bound to get a more security related job. I hope this helps I love my job and have nothing negative to say about it.I hope this helps....Show more
Sherri Drakos: LOLHow the hell should I know if should join or not? Unless you have a thrombosis hemorrhoid or black syphilis, than I suppose you could! .What branch of the military doesn't involve security forces to some ex! tent? I couldn't tell you anything about the Chair Force. It's a great branch with tons of smart folks. Without them, I probably wouldn't be here....But what does criminal justice have to do with security forces? I guess if you're trying to be an MP, than that's cool, but honestly, once you get out, no one is going to give a hoot about what you did.The mere fact you sacrificed your time, blood, sweat and tears... Will be enough. As it should be.--Rob USMC...Show more
